It's no secret I love to read!! For the past two years, I've set a goal of reading 2 books a week and I've done it -104 books in 2012 and 2013. So it should be obvious that I am always on the hunt for MORE BOOKS...which is what lead me to come up with this challenge. It is my hope that you will join in, and share it with your friends. The idea is that the prompts will work for anyone, no matter what genre you like to read! I chose 26 for the year estimating I'll check one prompt off the list about every two weeks. As people join the challenge and post their pics, it will hopefully spark lots of conversation and lead to many new book recommendations for all of us.
Personally - I will most likely do the list in order. Because it's easier for my scatterbrain to keep track that way and I tend to be OCD when it comes to lists. But you don't have to! Feel free to read your 26 books in any order you see fit. Maybe you'll hit up the bookstore this week and a book with a blue cover will catch your eye. Maybe you were already planning on finishing that book you put down before the holidays. Whatever prompt you chose to start with, post your selection to Instagram using the hashtag #26BOOKSwithBringingUpBurns (if you don't have IG - you can post your book choice on the Bringing Up Burns Facebook page, too!)
I am so excited to see what you are reading! This challenge is going to make me read less smut. HA! I can't be sharing lots of racy crap with all of you, now can I?! Can't wait.
LOVE this idea!!!
ReplyDeleteHere's to less smut in 2015!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea and wonderful challenge. I'm in (if I don't lose the list and forget where I got it from...I'm anti-OCD with lists. Ha).
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cool idea! It should do wonders for keeping me out of my trashy fiction rut. :)
ReplyDeleteI am in ! Recommend away! I need a good read , I start over the break !!
ReplyDeleteI am totally in. But am I super anal retentive to point out that #19 has a spelling error?
ReplyDeleteLynn - not anal at all!! I love it. Keeps me from getting reprimanded by my Mother. ;-) I call her the "Walking Red Pen" lol PS - #19 is all fixed! Thanks for the heads up.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this idea!! I love that it's not an actual list of books so everyone can read different ones! So perfect I'm def in!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to have found this (and you) via insta. I'm totally going to join this! I read 52 books a year (this year I hit 57, whoot!) and I applaud your 104 annual reads. Wow, impressed!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis will be fun!
Do you have a printer friendly version of this list? I would like to print it out and put it in my plannner...thanks!
ReplyDeleteDoes it count if I do the list but only with racy books?
ReplyDeleteHope it's ok to print off this list, such a good idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm in! Love the great ideas for reading in 2015 :D
ReplyDeleteI am so on board with this. Love this!!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea!
ReplyDeleteSo, started and finished a book today...I just have to decide which item to check off. It's been made into a movie. It has a blue cover. It has a colour in the title. Maybe I should hold it in reserve to see which one I need to finish the challenge!
ReplyDeleteExcited to join all of you with this! I need to take more time out for just me and my imagination! Hopefully starting with this, next year I can move into 1 book a week! (ultimate goal!) Again excited to join in on this! Let's do this!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I am always up for new books, and this is a great way to choose a few new ones. I'm definitely joining in!
ReplyDeleteI am definitely going to take part in this challenge
ReplyDeletei only read e books now days so some of the list will be hard to do lol
ReplyDeleteI am in!! January 2nd and I have 160 pages left in my first book. Gone Girl
ReplyDeleteI'm in. I've just read The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Takes care of number one.
ReplyDeleteI'm in!
ReplyDeleteThanks for such a great list!
Just blogged about it xx
A friend ousted this on FB. Such a great idea. I tend to read in spurts (like two weeks of straight reading, while I neglect my house and throw sandwiches at my kids for meal time), then I feel guilty and don't read art all for a while. Maybe this will help me be more well rounded with my reading. :)
ReplyDeleteA friend just told me about this on twitter, and I'm signing up right now. I needed a bit of change so thanks. I'm going to follow you too. I'm a book blogger and more if you wish to stop by my blog: http://mydevotionalthoughts.net
ReplyDeleteI'm in! See you soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm in!
ReplyDeleteDennis Knox--I also read e-books almost exclusively. I find that I can get ideas for new books at my local grocery store book section. Usually look at covers, titles, and authors. Almost 100% are available as e-books.
ReplyDeleteMarDog83---I loved the Time Traveler's Wife. If you like time travel books, have you read any of Diane Gabarlon's Outlander series. Really good.
ReplyDeleteI am going to do this however I don't do hashtags. Is there a way to post to your blog?
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome, and I am totally in!
ReplyDeletewhat a fantastic idea!! Thanks for putting it out there!
ReplyDeleteI am reading 50 in Goodreads, so I am all in for 26. It will keep me on track for my larger challenge! I like the topic concept and the choose your own books. Nice!
ReplyDeleteSome of these overlap with another challenge I've decided to do but I love the variety on your longer list, so I decided to undertake this one, also. I will blog about it later this week on my blog, Thoughts from Mill Street.
ReplyDeleteJust discovered you today through Whipstitch. Am also undertaking that sewing challenge.
What a fun idea. I think I am going to try this. It has a lot of variety and will expose me to some new authors and genres.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! I copied this list into book marks for our book club. (Giving you credit, of course. I left your blog address on the bottom.) They are going to love it!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant - have re-blogged!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I'm in. I'll blog about this today. Litandlaundry.locator.com
ReplyDeleteHey,
ReplyDeleteI came across this challenge on Pinterest and decided to try it (although some numbers will be hard, if not impossible, like 11) but anyway it will be great paired with my ABC challenge !
(if you ever come to my blog, I'm French so... it's in French, sorry about that!^^)
this is such a cool idea!! can we blog about it? (linking to this post)
ReplyDeleteconsidering making this a 2015 challenge!
can't wait to see what everyone will read!
I just finished Corelli's Mandolin by Louis De Bernieres to take care of number 2--a book made into a movie. I would recommend this book to others.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI just read the Little Prince--that will count as my book with a blue cover.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! Our local library used this type of challenge for the kids the past few summers- gives lots of flexibility to try something new while it still being something you will most likely enjoy~ I have 2 done- #4 The Vanishing Season, Jodi Lynn Anderson and # 13 History of the Future, A.S. King- both recommended by my two teen girls. On to #21 Paw Enforcement, Diane Kelly- again on my daughter's advice lol! I have your list, your blog link and my books as a FB note to share with friends. Happy reading everyone!
ReplyDeleteHi! I love this idea and I was wondering if I could use this idea for my blog posts. I was going to do some book reviews and this really helps me to follow a list (I'm a bit OCD too). I was going to link back here with each post, if that's alright with you.
ReplyDeleteI am going to give this a go and will link you each time! You can check out my blog at www.charlottecoster.blogspot.co.uk for blogposts :) x
ReplyDeleteWooohooo! Jut the inspiration I need. Thank you for compiling such a fun list.
ReplyDeleteJust come across your blog and challenge - LOVE it. I'm an avid reader but tend to stick to safe bets so this list will rally help me get out of my comfort zone. Looking forward to seeing what others read too.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. Do you have a book challenge button I can put on my blog to link back to you?
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. Do you have a book challenge button I can put on my blog to link back to you?
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming up with this! I needed something to keep me reading through the year, and mentioned you on my blog today (whatwouldbrisay.wordpress.com)
ReplyDeleteI started with #11 and am reading "Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" by Haruki Murakami. I'm about halfway through and highly recommend it!
Than ks for this great post, Erin. I have made a list of my own, modelled on yours. You can see it here http://maureenhelen.com/twenty-five-bo…read-this-year/
ReplyDeleteI'm in - brilliant! Is there a challenge button to link back to you? And it would be nice if we all had a challenge button, so we can scout around and see what other people are reading - I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Totally joining in on this challenge -- what a great list :)
ReplyDeleteSounds great Clare. Unfortunately with all the handiwork I do my reading has been put on the back burner. Believe me I love love reading and have many unread books sitting on my TO READ bookshelf. I would love to join in but I fear I would only be able to manage a book a month, I think. So would I be allowed to do 12 a year?
ReplyDeleteLaughing out loud as I read A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole, I found an intelligent, well written book. I would recommend this book to everyone.
ReplyDeleteNumber 7--a book by an author you love. I just finished Fairest by Marissa Meyer. Although it isn't nearly as fast paced or has the intrigue of the first three books in the series, it does explain a lot about Queen Levana.
ReplyDeleteI have created a Facebook page with links to my work with Goodreads specifically or he 26 Books in 2015 Reading Challenge. My page link follows : https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=407497689415467
ReplyDeleteI sure hopes this flies, already 3 books completed and reviewed in 2015.
Love the list! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI've taken care of number 6 by reading Landline by an author I've never read before--Rainbow Rowell. It was a quick read containing magic realism and the ever popular topic of work vs marriage.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dana for suggesting The Vanishing Season. I plan to read it for #16. Since my last comment, I have read Landline for the book by an author I've never read before. I know it was chosen as the winner on Goodreads, but it didn't do much for me. I also finished Midnight's Children by Salmon Rushdie. It was an interesting book about the beginning of free India. I will probably be processing it for a long time--not for the faint of heart. For a book with pictures, I read this year's Caldecott winner--The Adventures of Beekle: the Unimaginary Friend. The pictures are large, double page spreads that are gorgeous and imaginative. A great choice for the medal.
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to thank you for the inspiration to do this challenge. I started at the beginning of the month and am already four books in. I love this, Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun! I have a library blog, the CPL Readers Corner, at http://cplreaderscorner.wordpress.com. This challenge looks great, and I hope you don't mind if I participate on my blog (with links back and full credit, of course!).
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting this together!
--Marie at CPL
Love it. I'm going to merge this with my existing reading goal and see how the books I've already read fit in.
ReplyDeleteLove your challenge. I'm late getting started, but it's going to be fun. :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great list. My goal is a book a week and I'll be sure to use most of your list to come up with some new titles.
ReplyDeletehey! found your challenge picture on pinterest and i love the idea!
ReplyDeletegoing to join in german and without instagram but only through blogger.com.
i hope that's alright and i hope it's okay that i posted your picture from pinterest with it.
best wishes!
Sophie

I just finished " The Light Between the Oceans " by M. L. Stedman and it should be on everyone's must read list this year ! What an amazing first novel for this author! There were no easy answers, and no happily ever afters ~ just incredible real characters living in a no-win situation ! Amazing !
ReplyDeleteI found this right at the new year & am about half way through. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I haven't been a reader for years, but this has been the perfect opportunity for me. I've been reading instead of spending time on social media and am so much happier because of it. It's a challenge now finding books for the other half of the prompts, but the hashtag on instagram helps! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
ReplyDeleteMy next instalment of this challenge (tags 6-10) can be read at charlottecoster.blogspot.co.uk if you are interested. I love love love doing this challenge and it's inspiring me to read more.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed the list so far and been so cool to be back into reading. I have mine posted here: http://tinasscrapcorner.blogspot.com/2015/06/mays-read-of-26-books-for-2015.html
ReplyDeleteI'm totally in. I even knowwhere I'm going to strt. But how do you post a book you have on Kindle?
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Joining in on this challenge - what a great list !
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI came across your reading challenge at Pintrest. Sounds great and would love to join in. I know it's now August, but I think I can still do this before the year is out. I usually read 4 or 5 books every 2 weeks. I will be posting reviews of the books I read at my blog.
