To Dress Up or NOT to Dress Up...that is the question?!

Halloween is right around the corner and for the last month I have been trying to come up with costumes for the girls. Megan has had her heart set on being DeeDee Doodle from the Doodlebops. (A ridiculous musical show for kids that my brother, Andy calls "The Wiggles on acid.") I was a little slow to give in because I didn't want to sell out to a character costume just yet. I mean, there's only going to be so many years that she puts up with simply being a dog, or a clown, or a monkey, right? There are many years ahead of registered trademark costumes - Barbie, Cinderella, Strawberry Shortcake, Dora, DeeDee Doodle! So I started showing her every costume catalog that came in the mail. Much to my chagrin, in about the third catalog, was Dee Dee Doodle in all her glory - hot pink wig, gloves, boots and all! I realized there was no going back and went to order the costume online. I discovered, however, that this must be the year every 3 year old girl wants to be DeeDee - because it was sold out everywhere! The only one I could find was from a store in Delaware and they were charging $80 - more than double what the catalog had it listed for, and couldn't guarantee that it would get here by Halloween. Well, $80 is just out of the question for a Halloween costume as far as I'm concerned, and I think it's too late for me to scramble and try and make a DeeDee costume, so the process has begun to try and convince Megan that the dinosaur costume I have (it was my brother Charlie's when he was 3!!) is very cool. We went to the library and got a book on dinosaurs and she and her Daddy have been reading it every night. She's been pretty into it for the last few weeks. Even wore it to a costume party we went to last weekend. But today, she wants nothing to do with the idea. She's decided she wants to be Cinderella. I give up - stay tuned to see what she ends up being come Tuesday.
My Molly B is still little enough to lack an opinion of what she wants to be for Halloween and I get to decide! (or so I thought!) I was set on making her a monkey, because she is such the character in our family - but I know she never keeps anything on her head. She has always hated hats, hoods on sweatshirts, blankets over her head. So I gave up on that idea figuring she wouldn't look much like a monkey without the hood and ears! I settled on borrowing a Butterfly costume that a girlfriend made for her daughter last year. It is an adorable black, purple, silvery-sparkling leotard, tutu and wings. But when I tried the costume on her for that costume party we went to, she FREAKED out! Crying, screaming, kicking, trying to pull it off. She was so upset that it made Megan start crying and saying "Mommy, get it off of her!!" I have no other ideas for her at this point...so again, stay tuned! Molly may end up being Molly for Halloween.

Alex is going to be a pirate. But without the hat or eyepatch, cause he wouldn't keep them on even two seconds. I pinned a little stuffed parrot to the shoulder of his vest, and in our brief fitting earlier this week, he pretty much ignored that. We'll see how it goes on Tues! I can't wait to see what your girls end up as!
