OUR NEIGHBOR CUT OFF MEGAN'S HAIR!!!
Trauma! I was mortified when I figured it out. 99% of the time I do NOT let her play at the neighbor's house. I just don't think there is enough supervision by the mom. Tonight Megan was playing outside with Madison while Matt cooked dinner and I was folding laundry in the living room. It got too quiet out front and I knew she must have gone inside Madison's house. Dinner would be ready in 5 minutes, so Matt and I both thought, we'll get her for dinner. It's just 5 minutes.
When she came in for dinner, I thought her hair looked funny, but I thought the longer pieces must be tucked into the back of her tshirt. When we all got in the bath after dinner, I turned her around to wash her hair, did a triple take, and then yelled for Matt. My reaction made Megan break into tears. Even though I knew right away what had happened...I still wanted to hear it from her. When she finally calmed down, she confirmed my suspicion and tearfully told me, "It will grow back longer Mommy." I told her I wasn't mad, just a little sad. I never realized how attached I was to her long, blond locks until they were gone. I loved doing her hair in braids and buns, pigtails and ponies.
It was a good lesson for us all. I explained to her that hair doesn't make her beautiful. She is pretty with long hair, short hair...no hair! And it's almost Summer....so it's a good time to try out a short cut, right? Her friend at preschool is a girl named Brynn who has a cute page boy cut...so I told her she can have hair just like Brynn's now! That made her happy. I blew it dry and tried to even it out a little - but one side is still drastically shorter than the other. I'll probably take her to the lady who cuts my hair tomorrow. I keep telling myself, it could've been worse. Our neighbor could have cut it close to the scalp...or cut her skin! I kept staring at her until she went to bed. I think it will take awhile for me to get used to.
Here's the "New Do"

Ohhh...she is sooo beautiful! How horrible though that your neighbor cut her hair. Yikes, I would have issues with that. I love that real short cut too...and like you say perfect for summer....she is a cutie... I think this is a little Serendipity working in your favor!
Ok, don't panic. I was a cutter and a cutee all on my own little head... What's so funny about your post, is that you sound very morose about it, and then you post a BEAMING picture of Megan! She looks so happy and cute. I think what might have been tugging at your heartstrings, is that she looks a little older now. More like a little girl, than a baby. Could that be it? You're right though, she's beautiful either way.
I actually thought she looked younger again....
I think the point is, I WAS morose about it! Mostly angry at myself for letting her play at Madison's house when I knew better. But Megan never was too upset. She loves that it's easy to comb in the mornings now!
It' actually really cute on her - and I would have never cut her hair this short on my own. So Tonya's right....Serendipity.
She looks like such a big girl! The moment I saw the picture I had a flash to the year 2019 when Megan will be sixteen sitting in her "hot blue" mini cooper.
Love the new hair do.

Andy - I love that you know she calls turquoise "hot blue!"
