Go Quakes!

We've had a whirlwind weekend! My sister Katherine and her boyfriend Paul were in town from Chicago. Over their stay we went to a Rancho Cucamonga Quakes game, celebrated GG's 80th birthday, and went to a baby shower for me and Wyatt!

Our cousin, Chris Pettit, was drafted by the Angels in 2006. He's spent time in the minor leagues this past year playing for the Orem Owlz and Cedar Rapids Kernels. This Summer we were excited to learn he'd been moved up to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes! Finally games close enough for us to go and watch.

Chris plays center field and was named as the Angels Organizational Player of the Month for July. He hit .383 in July with eight home runs and 37 RBI in 115 at-bats. He also scored 30 runs and stole nine bases in ten attempts.! Overall in 184 at-bats, Chris is batting .353 with nine homers and 47 RBI with the Quakes after batting .346 with nine homers and 41 RBI for the Kernels the first part of the season. July is the second time Chris has won monthly honors from the Angels this season; he also was named as Organizational Player of the Month in May. Way to go Chris!

Last Thursday night, we took the girls and joined my family in cheering on Chris and the Quakes as they took on the Lancaster Jethawks. The game went extra innings, and unfortunately the Quakes lost. But Chris had a decent night - and it was "Thirsty Thursday" ($1 beers) as well as Fireworks Spectacular after the game - so we had a blast! Megan and Molly loved watching the mascot - a big green dinosaur named "Tremor." And of course - indulging in nachos, popcorn, hot dogs, and soda. By the time we were home and in our beds, it was almost midnight - but the girls were troopers and really enjoyed themselves. It was fun to be with family and to get to see Chris play. Here's to hoping he makes it to the big dance soon - Matt's been wanting Angel's season tickets for years. Can't deny him that when we have a relative on the team, right?!

More pictures of GG's bday and the baby shower later this week.
