As in my computer. It's just been too hot here these past few days for me to sit on the couch with a hot laptop touching me and blog. The thermostat inside our house read 95 on Saturday. WHAT? Are you kidding me? I know some of you - Katherine, Libby, Erin, Amelia, Love - you Midwesterners are shaking your heads at me, thinking "95? that's nothing!!" But hello! I live in So Cal for a reason. It's supposed to be 75 with balmy breezes 365 days a year! Right?
Everyone has been asking me how I have been feeling as my due date gets closer. And honestly - until this weekend - I've felt great. But this latest heat wave did me in. I had been surviving with a couple cold showers a day and maybe a dip in the kiddie pool in the afternoon with the girls. But this weekend - I turned us into a family of vampires. I tacked up navy blue sheets and towels all over every window of the house to keep out the hot sun. Even complained enough that our neighbor, Daniel, climbed up on our roof the other day and covered our skylight with a black tarp! I wouldn't turn on any lights, as they generate heat, so we've been living in the dark! Joanna - bless her sweet soul - was kind enough to loan us one of those window air conditioners (My grandma calls them swamp coolers) and Matt put it in our bedroom. I've been cranking that thing on high all day and night since we got it. Our bedroom is like icesicles and I love it. During the day, I've been using three oscillating fans to try and push the cold air thru out the rest of the house. It works until about 1PM and then it becomes a losing battle. So I close the door and the girls and I nap on my bed in the afternoon. Similarly - we went to put the girls to bed on Saturday night, and Matt said, "This is like cruel and unusual punishment!" Especially for Megan who sleeps on the top bunk. So for the past 3 nights, all 4 of us - maybe I should say 5 of us, as my belly almost counts as a person these days - have slept in our bed. I even pulled the blankets up in the middle of the night last night. I was cold! What a feeling.
Today was a good 10 degrees cooler than it has been all weekend and it was glorious. Maybe even more so - because tonight, Matt and I have our bed back to ourselves. Well, Matt, Me and my 5 pillows that is :) Not that I can really get a good night's sleep right now - but at least I can spread out without poking a kid in the side, or roll over without finding a foot in my armpit.

I can't imagine dealing with all that heat without AC! It's hot hot hot here but it's always cool inside. Let's hope the heat wave is over before the little baby comes home!

That "cruel and unusual punishment" part (putting Megan near the ceiling during a heat wave) was funny.
