Life is but a Dream

Playgroup was at our house yesterday and a girlfriend of mine brought some cookie bars to share. Um - they were just about the yummiest thing I had ever eaten in my life. And that's coming from someone who rarely gets excited about dessert. These cookie bars melted in your mouth and were perfectly sweet. I was on a mission to find the recipe.

My mom stopped by at lunch today and I had her try one. She is a cooking/baking sensation, so I knew she would be able to point me in the right direction. In one bite, my mom was like "Oh yes, these are called 7 Layer Dream Bars." Well of-Freaking-course they are! Because they are so sweet and scrumptious to eat one is like a dream. You take a bite and angels begin to sing.

A quick search on the internet brought me to the recipe. With butter, a graham cracker crust, chocolate and butterscotch chips, coconut AND a can of sweetened condensed milk - I mean come on, how can you go wrong?! I implore you, RUN, don't walk to your kitchen and bake these right now. You won't be sorry.

I always make goodies for the girls' teachers on holidays. I think these will be it for Valentine's Day!

7 LAYER DREAM BARS

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (one stick)
1 cup chopped walnuts
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup butterscotch chips
1 1/2 cups flaked coconut
1 1/3 cups sweetened condensed milk (one small can)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a 9 x 13 inch pan pour in melted butter. Sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs evenly over the butter. Next place the chopped nuts over the crumbs, and spread the chocolate and butterscotch chips over the nuts. Add the coconut over all, and pour the milk evenly over the top. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly brown on top. Cool at least 20 minutes then cut into desired sized bars.
