Prayers for my Angels

Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift up your hands toward him for the life of your young children. -Lamentations 2:19

I have begun keeping a prayer journal. Specifically I have been praying for my children. I was inspired by Jean Marie's challenge and motivated to make this more of a daily priority in my life. This week I have been focusing on "Releasing My Children into God's Hands." Finding peace and joy in the knowledge that God is in control of our lives and that he has great plans for my children. I have asked the Lord to guard me from clutching my children to myself and my will for their lives, so that I don't limit what HE has planned for them. Daily I remind myself that these angles I have been blessed with are truly Children of God, whom HE has entrusted in my care while here on Earth. I am privileged to have been given this challenge.

Today I was changing the kids sheets and flipping all the mattresses. It dawned on me to write a prayer for them on the slats of their beds. This way, they would sleep on my words to God every time they lay their little heads down. I read the words to them and told them what I was doing. I want them to know I pray for them, and that I trust God to lead and take care of all of us! Megan loved it. She said "That's Cool! Thanks Mom!" Molly just wanted to add her own words to God: "Mom, tell God that I sleep in my bed ALL NIGHT now!"

Wyatt is too young to understand, but not too young for prayers. So I wrote my prayer for him around the mattress frame of his crib.

Proverbs 22:6 says "Train up a child in the way he should go and he will not depart from it." Tonight when I tucked Megan into bed, she said to me "Mom, I'm sleeping on your prayer for me." My heart swelled. I love that she knows this, feels this, and it has become a part of who she is.

What an amazing post Erin! It can be so difficult to remember that God is in control and does have wonderful plans for our children. Thank you so much for this reminder. And what an amazing idea to write a prayer that way!

ps...i couldn't agree more that vacuuming in style is the way to go! ;)
