For Colby & Brayden

Dear Colby and Brayden,

I have been thinking of you a lot these past few days. I heard you have a big change coming up. You are moving cross country! To a new state, a new home, a new school, and new friends. I can imagine this must be a little scary. Even for the bravest of boys. So I thought I would let you know how COOL your new life is going to be. I think you are going to love it!

First, did you know your new state, Florida, is called the Sunshine State? It's nice and sunny there most of the year. And there are lots of sandy beaches and warm waves for you to swim in. You are going to have so much fun!

Also, Florida's state animal is the Panther. Panthers are one of the fastest animals on the planet. They are very smart and brave. Just like you two! I think Panthers are very cool.

Florida is known for it's Orange Juice. Do you like OJ? I do. I'll bet the orange juice you're going to get at your new house will be the best you've ever tasted!

Florida is also home to Cape Canaveral. This is the largest launch center in America and is where all manned Space Shuttles take off from. Maybe one day you'll visit and get to watch a launch. Wouldn't that be cool? Not a lot of kids get to do that!

Florida's state reptile is the Alligator. Did you know alligators can live to be over 50 years old? The biggest alligator ever found was in Florida. It was 17 feet 5 inches long!

A Gator is University of Florida's mascot. Almost 50 years ago, some University scientists invented a drink to help the football players stay strong and hydrated during their game. Can you guess what they named their special drink? GATOR-ADE! Have you ever had Gatorade? It's yummy!

I bet you know this one already...The biggest Disneyland ever is in Florida. It's so big, they call it Disney WORLD! I've heard you'd have to go 5 days in a row if you wanted to see everything it's so big. I've never been there, but I really want to go.

And finally, but maybe most importantly, I have always had a special place in my heart for Florida because I was born there! Yep - in Ft. Lauderdale.

For all these reasons AND because now the Miculkas will be there too, I think Florida is just about the coolest state in all the USA! What lucky boys you are to get to move to such a great place!

I hope your trip to your new home is a safe, fast, fun and easy one. Be good helpers to your Mom and Dad during the move. I know you are going to make so many new friends and you are going to love your new home!

Love, Erin

I just noticed your quote of the week- I LOVE Erma Bombeck. I keep her book next to my bed. My favorite is "I always find myself in the emergency room with a dish towel my only accessory." Such a great (and hilarious) perspective on raising children!

Erin, you are SUCH a thoughtful person! Colby and Brayden are blessed to know such a good friend!

I also grew up in Florida and it was so cool living there as a kid.

One year, they brought a black panther to our school and everyone got to see it up close.

One year we had a tropical storm and we got to miss school for a RAIN DAY. We took our boat into the street and paddled around with our friends.

We took a lot of cool field trips - canoeing, beach trips, Disney World, Busch Gardens, and islands!

We had orange trees and grapefruit trees in our backyard. Every Christmas we left fresh-squeezed OJ for Santa! We thought he got tired of milk at everyone else's house. He always drank it all.

Growing up in Florida was the best!

Wow Erin....i am truly overwhelmed w/ gratitude. What an amazingly thoughtful thing to do for the boys and they LOVED it!

Colby says: "Thank you for telling us about florida. I bet i will like it like you! My favorite things i learned are that there is lots of alligators and that Disney World is there!"

Brayden says:"Pank you" and then got slightly distracted but he was very excited to learn about OJ and gatorade. I'm not sure that he really heard much after the gatorade...all i heard was "hey...i wike garoade"!!

Thank you so much for being who you are Erin! Your thoughtfulness is inspirational and i am so blessed to have you in my life.

Laura~ loving the OJ for Santa!! Gonna have to remember that one next year!! =)
