Tri-Parenting

There are 3 parents in our house.
Matt, myself, and Google.
What the freak did people do before Google and the internet?!!

Today alone I Googled:

Blog backgrounds
Tofu recipes
Twilight trivia
How much Tylenol to give Wyatt
How to install a Wii remote
Directions to CostCo
Chicago plane tickets
Obama inauguration
Bridesmaid dresses
Twitter
Birthday Party ideas
Minnie Mouse cake ideas

Google is seriously my parenting tri-pilot. And while I love it for all the peace of mind and "superhero power" knowledge it allows me to impress my children with...I do think that living in the information age has it's drawbacks. There are times that having infinitesimal amounts of knowledge at my fingertips has been a detriment. Like when I Googled "red rash on infant" and flipped, convinced my child had Scarlet Fever!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Do you think it's possible to know too much? Or has knowing "everything" empowered you as a modern parent and/or person?

Like you i rely heavily on the computer! And i couldn't agree more that it is a mix of benefit and detriment. I have so many times googled a symptom one of the boys is having and caused myself so much anxiety over what turns out to be nothing. BUT....living in a new city where i know almost nobody google has been a valuable tool to find info on this foreign place i am living in. So for me it's a toss up....a little bit empowering but can easily become a case of too much info!

And on another note...did you get to satsify your Lost craving??? I was thinking of you...wasn't it on last night?

Seriously. What did people do before the internet? We leave two computers on all the time because we are popping on and off them all day long. Store hours, directions, news, email, just looking up interesting stuff. Let alone smart phones- now you can do the same from the store parking lot! I think it has done the same for parenting as everything else- it's awesome!
