Miss Edie

Miss Edie lives next door.
She's 92 years old.
She walks the length of our block. Everyday. At 4pm.
She has white hair.
And wears velour sweatsuits.
I love Miss Edie.

When I'm out in the front yard with the kids, she always comes out to talk.
Actually she's the one who talks.
I scream back answers.
But she can't hear me.
We both try.
We both are sweet.
She always comments on how beautiful my children are.
And asks if she can feed my fat dog a few of her homemade meatballs.

Yesterday, in one of our front yard exchanges,
Miss Edie brought me roses.
Yellow Roses.
{my favorite, long live ZKlove.}
From her yard.

With them, she gave me a piece of her 90+ year old wisdom.
She said to me:

"I wish I could give you more than roses.
I wish I could play with those kids of yours.
And send you out to get your nails done.
Or out with your husband."

Then she said:

"But I am too old. And too slow.
I can't play with kids anymore.
So take my roses. And play.
Play with your kids all the time.
Cause soon you'll be old like me and wishing you could still get down and play with children."

Oh, Miss Edie.
You are so wise.
I hope I am half the woman.
Half as sweet & true.
As you.
When I am 92.

{I put Miss Edie's roses in one of my favorite Ball jars from GG. Right next to my favorite framed Happy Sunday verse. Stolen from my dear friend, Julie's blog. It's not really stealing if Julie's SEEN them framed and taped and pinned all over my house, right?! They are what inspired My So Called Life. But I digress...I find it funny...and yet, comforting....that Edie's roses represent EXACTLY what Colossians talking about.)

Sunday is fun.
But, HAPPY TUESDAY, friends!

this made me cry Erin.
I think about this exact topic on a daily basis.
One day I will be 92 and not be able to half of what I WANT to be doing.
Tears.
Life is short.
Thank you so much for sharing!

Oh how I love this. I love old people. And I love children. And I love Edie. And her walks. And her heart. And her roses.
