Summer Playgroup

On Fridays, Megan, Molly and I get together with a playgroup that is made up of girlfriends I went to high school with and their kids. It has proven to be as much fun for me as it is for the girls! This summer we've visited Centennial Farms, the beach, Orange County Zoo, the park, story hour, and a water park among others. Pictured above (L to R) are: Bennett Kipp, Bailey Burks, Daxton DeVengoechea, Megan & Molly Burns, and Vivian Vallely.

What a Difference a Year Makes

For a little girl who only had a few words at 2...Megan is talking up a storm at 3. It's a wonder I ever worried that she'd learn to talk. She makes me laugh everyday with the things that come out of her mouth, such as:
"Mom, you're talking too loud, my baby doll is sleeping!"
"I'm sick of all this stuff" (referring to all the laundry on the floor)
"Dad, come look at my poops!"
"I'm three so I'll eat three bites, then I'm done." (when I tell her to finish her dinner)

Ahhhh....and she can READ too (well, kinda) Yesterday we were at a restaurant and I took Megan to the bathroom. I was looking behind me to make sure she was following and not paying attention to the door I was opening. I took her by the hand and led her inside. She gave me a funny look and said, "Mom, why are we going in the boys one?" Shocked, I turned around to see a wall full of urinals (luckily no men) and laughed. As we quickly exited, Megan told me with scorn in her voice, "Mommy, the girls one has the lady in the dress on it!" I'm glad she cleared that up for me!

Molly's new words this week: baby, bear, Coke, bee, up, down, out, off, shoe, baba (which she uses for both bottle and milk), owie, and Rella (Cinderella)

Time Flies!!

The Burns family went to Disneyland on Monday and as we were getting on the tram in the morning, I heard someone calling "Erin!" I turned around to see Dennis Twombley - the husband of Becci, who was my roommate at Pepperdine. He was taking their two daughters, Piper(almost 6) and Tobi (3) for a fun day at the Happiest Place on Earth too! Unfortunately Becci had to work that day, so I didn't get a chance to catch up with her, but it was fun to see the girls and realize that it has been 10 years since Becci and I lived together and made some crazy memories. Now we are mature, responsible mommies :) (she has a little boy, Tucker (1) too!) who have little ones making memories together. So Fun.

Thru Their Eyes

Well, the Burns girls are home alone this weekend...Daddy's in Vegas for his friend Jud's bachelor party. We've had fun painting our toes, putting on make-up and all three sleeping in Mommy's bed! My girlfriend and sorority sister from Pepperdine, Jenna, came down and spent the night on Friday. So much fun for me and the girls really enjoy showing off. We went to America's Cup frozen yogurt, where you get to make your own, and I think Megan thought she had died and gone to heaven. She had animal cookies, rainbow sprinkles, M&M's and sour gummy worms all in the same bowl. Afterwards, the girls were so sticky that when we got home, they stripped naked and payed in the kiddy pool. Jenna and I commented on how simple and happy life seemed to them. It's my goal to try and look at each day ahead with the carefree spirit of my girls.

Future Hell's Angels?

Anyone who knows our Papa Tim knows that he and motorcycles are synonymous. So it was only natural that he gave all 5 of his grandchildren mini replicas of his antique Indian. It drives, has a siren and keeps my girls occupied for hours on end. Megan pouts when it's time to recharge the battery.

Too Cool for the Pool

We are beating the heat by visiting Grandma Janis and Papa Tim and their pool almost every afternoon. Both girls are getting to be such little fish. Today they both stood in the water on the side ledge and jumped to me, faces in, kicking and reaching for my hands. A major first for Megan - who isn't usually big on getting her face wet. And even though Molly loves to jump out of your arms and go "all the way under" as Megan likes to say, I was still surprised by her brave little attempts to swim like her big sister. Their water polo auntie would be so proud!

Megan's 3rd Birthday

Megan turned 3 last Friday and we had a "Cinderella" themed birthday party for her the weekend before. A girlfriend of mine dressed up like Cinderella and made the day of all the little girls at the party. We also had a bounce house that looked like a castle and a build your own ice cream sundae bar. Needless to say, Megan had the time of her life. It was a hot afternoon, as you can see by the pink cheeks! Grammie Susan kept trying to get Megan to drink water through the netted window of the bounce house. (Easier than trying to get her to come out!) We are enjoying our house and yard with the space to play and entertain.

Best Buds!

Pictures...that's the real reason you visit this webspace, right?! Well, summer is in full swing and we are loving it. All three Burns' girls are enjoying having Daddy home to play with us. We had a fun 4th of July party at our new house and have spent the last HOT month playing in our kiddy pool, riding bikes (Megan got a new one with training wheels) and going to the beach. Matt and I comment everyday on how big the girls are getting. Megan wants to do everything "myself!" including getting dressed, going potty and washing her hair. Everytime I turn around Molly is saying a new word. Just last night she came to me and said "Mama, cookie" clear as a bell! She wants to do everything her big sister does, and most times Megan is happy to have Molly follow her around. I enjoy watching them play and take care of each other. If Megan gets a "bonk" Molly rushes to hug her and kiss the boo boo. When I scold Molly and she cries, Megan tells me "don't make my sister sad, Mommy!" I am so happy they are growing into such good friends.

Welcome to the Future

Okay - so here's little ol' me who only uses her laptop for checking email and word processing....blogging! I'm not even sure if I know what I am doing, but think this could be a great way to share news and pictures with family and friends. We'll see how fast I can learn.
