"Children must be ready to learn from the first day of school. And of course, preparing children for school is a historic responsibility of parents." -George Bush
In a feeble attempt to "prepare" Megan for Jr Kindergarten, I started a new project a few weeks back. Each day we have been learning a "Super Letter of the Day." I made a sign for our magnetic back door and put all the Alphabet magnets there too.
We practice writing the letter in upper and lower cases on child ruled paper and then post it to the door.
We cut pictures out of magazines and catalogs of things that start with the letter and post those to the door too.
Then I let the girls write the letter in different mediums. We've used rice, playdough, shaving cream, chocolate pudding (their favorite by far!)
When Wyatt naps, we make something that starts with the Super Letter of the Day.
For A we made Applesauce
for B we made Bread
for C we made Cookies
and for D we made Dough (as in the salt/flour kind you make magnets out of).
It has been so much fun! Both girls look forward to changing the letter in the morning and seeing what we are going to make that day. I have done a few other fun things to help them with their letters and numbers. I'll post them later this week along with the rest of our alphabet recipe ideas.
