Okay two suggestions and an agree: 1. The Shack. AMAZING. Erin, you will get a lot out of this book. Very powerful and very moving. 2. Don't Let's Go to the Dog's Tonight:An African Childhood. 3. My Sisters Keeper
Twilight. I know it's for young adults and the movie has ruined it--but if you are looking for a really good love story and a can't-put-this-freakin'-book-down read--it's the one. You WILL get so addicted you will end up reading the whole series (four long books) and be really depressed when it is all over. Go ahead, I DARE you!!!

I recently read The Shack and loved it! Not sure if it the sort of thing you are looking for but it was a great book!

If you end up picking this one, I might have to drop in on book club. (If that's allowed.)

All great reads!
From the list above, I would recommend
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
Anything by Jodi Picoult
Also thought of Lamb: Gospel According to Biff, nice Christmas theme. It's the story of Jesus as told by his childhood buddy Biff. Pretty fun stuff.
Also Girl with No Shadow. It's the sequel to Chocolat if anyone read it or saw the movie.
Also holiday themed - Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris. It's worth checking out the audio book from the library to hear him reading the stories.

Have you read The Life of Pi? Good for a book club...lots of symbolism to discuss.
