The Luckiest

(Today's post requires volume if you want to hear the song I've been getting lost in for the past few days)

Mateo, once again, hit it out of the park for our anniversary. He always does this...we talk a few weeks before the big date and agree to not buy each other anything. Then he shows up the day of with not one, BUT TWO, sweet thoughtful gifts he knows I will LOVE. And here I am with nothing for him other than a big, wet kiss! (He did this one Christmas too, and then gave me diamond earrings!)

First he gave me this picture frame.

The flower petals he's been saving for the past 10+ years!! Right after we got engaged, we went on a mission trip together to a tiny village in American Samoa called Pago Pago. The people there threw us a big celebration to bless our marriage when they found out we were recently engaged. Think insane amounts of food, the most beautiful acapela music you've ever heard (seriously, it brought people to tears!) and lots of ceremonial dancing. We participated in a traditional Samoan ceremony where the ladies of the village sang and danced around us while putting one lei on me, another one on Matt, and then a SUPER long yellow one that went around both of us. These leis were handmade by the ladies of the village and were so pretty!

So yes - those flower petals in the picture frame are from the leis we were given that night! When Matt told me this - at first I didn't believe him. Then he showed me an old Hogan golf ball box he's been keeping all these years in our garage. He'd written "10 Year Anniversary - Don't Shake!" on the outside. Inside were a handful of dried flowers from our leis.

I was so blown away that he had thought about surprising me in this meaningful way over 10 years ago. He was just a 22 year old boy, but had my happiness and heart first on his mind. Yeah....I got a good man. I knew it then. I know it even more now! THEN - Matt gave me another gift (you know, the ones we weren't giving each other!)

New running clothes that match my MAGIC shoes!!

I loved them. So much so, I had to immediately break them in Friday night when he put the kids to bed. And guess what?! The new clothes are MAGIC too! I ran double my normal mileage without stopping or feeling tired. LOVE it! (And just in case you're wondering...I've run 72 miles in 30 days. Told you, MAGIC!)

Oh Matthew, my love - you are amazing. I am so blessed to call you MINE. Just wanted you to know that I know it, and appreciate it, and bask in the glory of it. Again...FOREVER, you have my heart! I recently heard this song and it made me think of you and us. Actually, it made me think of me. For I truly am, The Luckiest!

There has never been a doubt in my mind about you. You make me so happy and I am so proud of you, but I am the luckiest! Truly blessed that the man upstairs placed you in my life! Thanks for 13 magical years and now I need to think of something for 20, 30, 40, & 50 if we are so lucky! You are my sunshine, baby.
Love, Matthew

What a beautiful gift from your husband!

I love this song from Ben Folds. I heard it for the first time years ago.

I hope that one day I am lucky enough to have a man in my life that is as good to me as yours is.
