St. Patrick's Fabric Menu Tutorial

Today I am so excited and honored to be guest posting over at 30 Handmade Days today! If you haven't visited Mique's blog before, you must jump on over. She is overflowing with crafty ideas and is one of the sweetest people I have been blessed to "meet' because of blogging.

Today, I'm showing how to make FAB fabric menus for your St. Patty's Day Dinner!

But you can use the technique for almost anything, however. Gift tags, buffet labels, bookmarks...I used it to personalize the ornaments I gave a favors at my "Eclipse on the Lawn" party last December. And it's the same way I personalize the muslin bags items from my shop are packaged in!

So come find me over on Mique's blog today, and learn step by step, how to make your own fabric menus. Also, use code 30DAYS for 25% off your entire purchase at HauteBlueB, good thru Friday. Thanks friends!

What I Whipped Up Wednesday

A sorority sister of mine recently referred a customer to me. Kathleen was looking for some cute embellished tanks for her daughters to wear in their upcoming family photo shoot. She told me the girls would be in tutus and high tops - and just wanted something girly and FUN to go along! "What I Whipped Up" is what I'm featuring this Wednesday. I call it the LuLu Tank. Named after one of the cutest, sassiest, fashion forward girly-girls I know!

It's a white, cotton, fine ribbed tank embellished with a sheer black double ruffle and bright jewel toned fabric rosettes on one shoulder. I think it turned out FAB!

It's currently for sale at Haute Blue B! CLICK HERE to purchase.

Thanks Kimmie, for hosting WIWW. I'm really having fun with it! =)

Manic Monday

Busy week this week!
Spring Football has begun and we've got gymnastics, Daisies, bible study, softball, Open House, Glass Slipper meeting...it's a Manic Monday for sure.

But here are a few "thoughts" I wanted to share with you before I get lost in my week...

I started Menu Planning again. Actually, I never stopped. I just got bad about regularly posting my plans and menus to Haute Plates. But I'm back. At least this week. So go check it out! Have a recipe you'd like to share? I'd love to have you guest blog at Haute Plates! Leave me a comment or email and let me know.

You've heard of Netflix, right? I discovered something EVEN BETTER this weekend! (Better that is, if you love to read like I do!) It's called BookSwim. Join for a monthly fee, create your book que, and then receive bestsellers in the mail to keep and read at your leisure. Return them when you are finished in the pre-paid envelope. No late fees. No due dates. I think this is awesome. I love to read, but don't have the time to peruse the bookstore like I would like, finding my next read. And I am running out of room to store all the books I read! I pass some on to my sister, mom, girlfriends...but this seems like a great alternative. Subscriptions start at $24 per month for 3 books out at a time. I spend money each month on Amazon buying books and paying for shipping anyway. All my reader friends...what do you think? What books should I add to my que?

I gotta watch LOST before Laura gets home and blogs about it tomorrow!

I'm in a running slump and need to get out. I haven't ran since the half marathon. For varied reasons. But today was the first morning I woke feeling depressed about it and needing to pound the pavement. This happens to me. I cycle between exerting my energy physically and creatively. Lately I've been spending all my extra time and "juice" sewing and making stuff for my shop. While creating in this way brings me satisfaction too...it does nothing for my middle! And I love to eat...so therefore I must run. Time to even out the cycle and get it not so lopsided!

Speaking of creating...here are some new Red HAUTE things I made this weekend:

My mom, sister and I have been obsessing on a baby shower for my sister in law. She's due in July with a BOY! The invites go out today...so sneak peek of our theme coming soon! I've been trying to post more regularly over at Haute Dates too...which is where I'll do the Baby Shower Sneak Peek later this week. What kind of party posts do you want to see in the future?

Happy Monday everyone!

NEW Haute Pink!

Haute Pink is my category at Haute Tots for everything girly. This  past weekend I worked on some new circle top tanks and I have fallen in love with the pattern. (You too can buy the pattern HERE!) It's so fun and versatile! I love combining different fabrics and colors to get that POP. Especially for little girl clothes!

I made the neck closure velcro and accented it with a crocheted flower. Megan and Molly like to wear these tops with jeans or leggings. And even though they are tank style, they look super cute with a long sleeve shirt underneath! Try not to get too attached to the first two, they were birthday presents for Molly's friends, twin sisters Kate & Camille.

These ones below (all size 4T/5T) are still for sale in my shop!
I'm making some other sizes (in more Heather Bailey fabrics) later today

Each Circle Top is $19 plus shipping and comes with a matching covered button hair accessory.

Have a certain color or fabric combo you'd like to see?
Let me know and I'll make your vision a reality!

Two Girls (one extra super) and an Animal Rescuer

Blogger was acting funny for me yesterday...so I gave up. Which means I'm gonna post TWICE today! First - Costumes. Second - Thankful Thursday!

Hope you enjoy these fun pictures of our Halloween dressing up. I had fun making all of the kids costumes - especially Molly's cape and shirt. I love how it came together. My favorite part was when people would ask her who she was and she would very matter of factly look at them and say "SuperMolly" like it was the most obvious thing in the whole wide world!

My second favorite part was Wyatt seeing his completed vest for the first time and exclaiming "Mom! You make this?! Wow. Good job, Mom!" like he just couldn't believe I MADE a Diego vest! He must have said that 50 times Halloween night.

Finally, I also loved that in making Megan's dress, I got to learn a new decorative stitch on my machine and that the sash was recycled off an old dress of mine that's now TOO BIG on me. Love ALL of that!

Be sure and check back later today for the first Thankful Thursday post of the season, my blogger/twitter/booklover friend, Shealynn Benner!

Last Minute

So it took me until yesterday to get this made. I've had the materials for about 3 weeks just staring at me...and a sad, empty, very UNFESTIVE front door! Better late than never, I always say. At least it can rock our front door for the next 72 hours.

I was finally able to make it, because my sweet husband got home early from practice and took ALL THREE KIDS to see "Where The Wild Things Are," while I stayed home and sewed. Glorious! Every girl needs a Matt Burns. He's dreamy and divine and oh so awesomely sweet to his wife!

Tonight is a football game, and then home to finish sewing Wendy Darling. It's coming together quite nicely. I'm hoping "Stinker Butt" er....I mean, Megan, will actually want to wear it tomorrow to school. Her Kindergarten class has "Literacy Character Day." Which means you get to wear a costume to school, but only if you are a character out of a book. I was so glad that who she wanted to be for Halloween was already a literary character! This Momma can't handle 2 costumes for the same kid right now. (And you know I woulda tried!)

If you have a Haute Tots order coming to you, everything should ship by early next week. I got a little behind this past week with the exciting decision to move...and making 3 Halloween costumes. So I apologize. Thanks for your patience!

More exciting news...KATE and PAUL are in town! They flew in last night and are here through the weekend. We are all SO excited to see them and celebrate Halloween together. Every year it's a toss up for me. I can't decide which I like better...Halloween or Christmas...right now, of course, I LOVE HALLOWEEN! The candy, the funky colors, the Jack o Lanterns! You wont want to miss mine. Anyone (not already privy to inside info) want to take a gander at what/who I am going to carve into my pumpkin?! Let's see how well you know me....

And the WINNER is...

Drumroll please.....
The Scoop Neck Dress Top I made from SewSensible's soon to be released pattern!

ONE LAST LOOK...

Didn't it turn out CUTE?! I love the look of the fabrics together. And I'm all about Halloween right now, so this was really FUN to make. Aimee notes in the pattern that it runs big, and I was testing out size 1-2. I definitely think this would fit a 2 year old perfect and be a little big on a 1 year old. As far as the pattern goes, it was very straight forward and easy to follow. I will definitely make flowers like this again, but I think I will use wool felt instead. And make them as a pin that can detach when it's time to wash the dress!

The pattern can also be made with shorter sleeves and no ruffle at the bottom...so I have more options to try out just as soon as I can! I think I am going to use this pattern to make Megan's Wendy Darling costume...just make the dress panels really LONG so they'll go all the way to the floor and elasticize the short sleeves to make them looked puffy and "capped," just like Wendy's.

OK - time to give this HAUTE little number away.... The girls helped me write out everyone's name and we put them all in a plastic pumpkin. Then we let Munchie pull one out...

Miss Janey Jae
you are gonna be one HAUTE HAUNT this Halloween!!
Congrats. I can't wait to see pics of it on you. I'll ship it out today to be sure you get it in time!

Oh yeah...

Almost forgot...SewSensible has allowed me to be one of her new pattern testers before it is released to the masses!! Which means this morning I found in my inbox a pdf file for a BRAND NEW pattern. It's for some girlie yumminess that I get to try out and then let Aimee know what I think. It's a Scoop Neck Dress Top!  (click to see an example on Aimee's blog)

HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!

So fun! Can't wait to share with you how my "testing" turns out. I'm gonna use up some of my sassy Halloween fabric and it must be made to fit a size 1-2 little Haute Tot girlie girl. Since that's too little for my loves, I'm gonna have to give it away!

Leave a comment if you have a little Haute Tot that it would fit and I will pick a winner LATE tonight!

(That way I can get it in the mail manana, and on her HAUTE little bod by Saturday!)

Thanks peeps. You are the BEST!
(I'm hopin' Bernie thinks so too! She has a long night ahead of her!)

I sense a theme to my posts as of late...

BUSY.
LOTS TO DO.
ALL OF IT EXCITING.
ALL OF IT EQUAL AMOUNTS FUN & WORK.

I hate when I have a bunch of fun stuff to share and blogging (or better yet, photography, downloading, editing, and uploading) is at the bottom of my To Do list!!

Because a too full brain, does not a Productive Erin make.

So here I am to purge some of the crazy, busy, FUN that is swirling around my head in hopes of getting to work effectively today!

First, we are MOVNG! We leased a house. A big, beautiful HOME. It's within walking distance to Matt's school and our church (which is where Molly & Wyatt go to school.) Some of our best friends live about 8 houses down the street!

It has hard wood floors, wainscoting, crown molding, custom paint colors, and yummy, plush carpet! The house is DOUBLE the square footage we are in now, TWO bathrooms (we've been living with one,) THREE bedrooms (all 3 kids are in one bedroom now,) a living room AND a family room, a grassy front yard complete with roses, a mature shade tree, adirondack chairs and white picket fence, and a picture perfect backyard with TWO outdoor, built in dining and sitting areas and a POOL!

Somebody pinch me.

I haven't even told you the best part of the whole freakin' place!!

.....wait.....wait for it....

IT HAS A DISHWASHER!

(insert insane, devil-ish laughter here)

I've lived without a dishwasher for the past 8 years. I know it's not a necessity. But when you make 95% of your meals at home, and you have 3-6 kids at any given meal, and each week includes at least one (usually three) reasons to bake a special treat...a dishwasher is close to Heaven. The sweet woman who owns the house told me "It's not brand new, but it works great!" and I thought to myself, "This thing might as well be diamond crusted and smothered in creme brulee...That's how much I love it."

Those of you who know me personally know I never admit to much of anything being "Better Than Sex" (especially not a chocolate cake, ICK!) But for the first week we are in our new home, the dishwasher just might qualify!

Some of the other fun stuff....

Moving means Megan will start at a new school. I would be worried by this, except for the fact that she transitioned BEAUTIFULLY to the school she is at now. I think she will do it again great and there are a TON of kids that go to her new school that she knows from church and preschool.

I bought several yards of THIS and I can't wait to make pillows and dust ruffles and blankets from it for the girls new room. The walls are a cranberry red with white glossy wainscoting half way up the sides.

Thinking of complementing it with Michael Miller's Ta Dot in Berry and maybe some hot pink and turquoise minky. YUM!

Haute Tots as been super sucessfull since opening! Sew much sew...I need to get off this laptop and get to work! I have 5 orders that MUST ship by tomorrow or my name is MUD. Self moniker'd of course. But since a couple of the orders are Halloween costumes, I'll be called that by more than myself if I don't get crackin'!

Also have to finish my own children's Wendy Darling, SuperGirl and Diego ensembles.

So if you drive by Bringing Up Burns in the middle of the night this week - now you won't be surprised to see the bright lights turned up and me and Bernie working together like mad women!!

Off to sew, and then to deliver lunch to Daddy at work. In a few weeks we can WALK it over!! So fun!

Stinker Butts

Megan's Kindergarten class has been learning their colors. Each day for two weeks, they are supposed to wear as much of the "Color of the Day" as possible. Today's color is PURPLE. My obsessive self stayed up till 4AM sewing this for her to wear today:

(My girl is a skinny mini. this pic looks weird b/c her waist is only 16 inches!)

But she wasn't too impressed. She liked it alright. Just not enough to actually wear it! She came to me (almost in tears) and said "Mom, I know you worked hard on this, but I would really be more comfortable in my jeans and my purple t-shirt. Is that okay?"

My response was less than stellar.

"Of course that's okay, Megan. What do I always tell you? Clothes don't make the person.....Just don't expect me to stay up all night sewing something pink and awesome for tomorrow! And the purple outfit's going up for sale if you don't love it."

Awesome, right? Who says that to their over the top sweet, love of a of child?
What a STINKER BUTT I am.

Lucky for me, my Kindergartener is often more level headed than her Mother. She just smiled and said "Okay Mom. I still want the hair clip though."

Apparently she's a quick learner too. Because next she said to me, "If you make the pink one a teeny bit longer tonight, it will be awesome!" and ran off to find her grungy jeans and faded purple tee.

STINKER BUTT!

Peasant Top and Ruffle Pants with Yo-Yo Flowers will be available for purchase just as soon as I can list them! Size 4T can ship immediately! =)
