Feeding the Addiction

The American Psychological Association says the first step on the road to recovery is "admitting that one cannot control one's addiction or compulsion." So at least I've got that going for me. I've admitted to falling off this wagon many times! (Yes, many.) Heck, I've even posted my own Warning Label.

It's somewhere between Steps #3 and #5 however, where I'm having trouble. I'm guessing "examining past errors and learning to live with a new code of behavior" does not include participating in blog swaps that center around the very thing you are addicted to. You don't see AA members gifting each other memberships to the Beer of the Month Club, now do you? No, that's what I thought.

I think I've skipped over Steps 3-5 and moved straight onto Step #6 "Helping others that suffer from the same addictions or compulsions." That's easy! Painting my addiction (or sewing & crafting it, in my case) in the prettiest light possible and then mailing it off to a fellow Twi-hard sufferer was FUN! Even better, she mailed me a box too. Addicts bonding together, comforted by the knowledge we are not alone in this plight. Yeah...we rock.

Wait. Step #6 is supposed to mean helping each other NOT obsess. NOT be addicted. NO LONGER compulse?! Whoops!

Whatever. So I failed Twilighter's Annonymous. I'm okay with that.

I'm learning to live with my addiction. I no longer try to explain it. I've stopped feeling the need to apologise for it. Instead, I've decided to celebrate it! Yes, that would be me staying up all night sewing and crafting, and then giggling like a kid when my Twilight Swap box came in the mail.

Denise from Polka Dot Moon was my swap partner, and below is what she sent me. Now, I know there are those of you out there who didn't like Twilight, or never read it, or just don't get the craze (I used to be one of you!) But for those of you who do like Twilight...tell me all this doesn't make you smile! Since 99% of the mail addressed to me is bills - this kinda delivery is a welcome, silly, selfish treat! FUN in a box is how I see it.

Denise made the little pillow that is filled with Lavender, as well as the bookmark, cute apple "Bite Me" tags, and necklace. I love the red nail polish that's named "After Midnight" and the yummy Apple candle.

I love how she decorated the box the necklace, called "Bella's Lullaby," was packaged in. The necklace includes a sterling treble clef, and red and clear swarovski crystals. So Pretty!

Oh yes, can't forget. You know I'll be eating these November 20th with my popcorn and Diet Coke!
This is what I made Denise. It's an apple pin cushion made from Heather Bailey's Fresh Picked pattern. I used two different apple prints, both in black and red.
And I was able to find the cutest, tiny, apple stick pins on Etsy! Lillian of Cupcake Girls made them special for me the very night I ordered them and rushed shipped them so I'd have them in time to swap. She's a dear!
Hidden under the black leaf, I added 5 charms to the red leaf that reminded me of Twilight. A Baseball Cap for Team Cullen, a Swan for Bella, a Fork for Forks, WA, an Apple (duh), a Shopping Bag for Alice (Denise's favorite character), and a Red Heart for Edward. I got the charms from Shadesongs - also on Etsy. (Etsy might be another one of my addictions!)

I packaged it all up in a red apple basket and scraped some cute, Twilight looking tags to tie it all together.
I enjoyed this swap so much, I've decided to extend the fun. I loved how my Twilight Apple Pincushion turned out, so....I MADE TWO and I'm giving the other one away!

Are you a Twi-hard too? Just leave a comment below letting me know I'm not alone in my addiction and I'll enter your name to win the pin cushion (apple pins and charms included...sorry, apple basket was one of a kind!) Let me know you blogged or tweeted about this giveaway and I'll enter your name twice.

Entries will be taken till 5PM, Thursday August 6th. One week from tonight! At that time, I'll put all names in Baseball Cap (how apropos) and let my random number generator pick the winner.

P.S. My random number generator is named Munchie, has the cutest smile EVER, and is something I will forever be addicted to! No 12-Step program needed.

Ok, so I'll finally publicly admit it... I'm bitten too! Mostly, I just live vicariously though your posts (esp the Edward pics) but your giveaway was just too cute to pass up.
